Commercial Hotel Woods Point
The road to Woods Point still runs an hour or more over the Great Dividing Range's high, unsealed tracks, and the pub at the end of it has welcomed four-wheel drivers, motorcyclists and country tourers since a licence was first taken out here in 1862, in a building rebuilt in the 1940s. The bar is filled with memorabilia from the gold-town years, and behind the counter sits a keg of the house's own Tear Arse Gully Port. Twelve guest rooms, five with ensuites, plus a separate three-bedroom cabin, let visitors stay the extra day the drive in deserves; a beer garden and dining room round out a classic bush-pub circuit. Currently trading four days a week and voted Best Bush Pub in the Victorian High Country's 2024 awards, it remains one of the more improbable places in the state to find a cold beer.
