Schulz Organic Creamery & Cafe

A few minutes inland from the Great Ocean Road near Timboon, Schulz Organic Creamery & Cafe sits on a corner of the family's thousand-acre organic dairy farm — and has done the organic thing since 1972, long before it was fashionable. The café spills into a relaxed garden setting where you can buy the farm's handmade cheeses and dairy and eat a seasonal menu led by pastry chef Hila Perry, built around Schulz's own milk and hand-picked local produce. Farm tours tell the grass-to-glass story on the ground where it happens, from paddock to churn. It's a cornerstone of the 12 Apostles Food Artisans gourmet trail and a natural detour off the tourist route — proof that some of the coast's best eating is a short turn inland, where the cows are.
