Daintree Ice Cream Company
Deep in the World Heritage Daintree, the Daintree Ice Cream Company has been turning its own rainforest harvest into ice cream since 1993. The philosophy is 'tree to cup': exotic tropical fruit — the kind most visitors have never tasted — is grown organically in the on-site orchard, watered by tropical rain, then churned in small batches on the premises with no syrups, packet mixes or artificial sweeteners. Each day's flavours depend on what the orchard is ripening, which is the whole point. You take your cup and eat it beneath the very trees that grew it, then wander a free, self-guided walk through the orchard to meet the fruit face to face. Lonely Planet called it the most scenic ice cream company ever, and between the rainforest setting and the conservation ethos that underpins it, that's hard to argue with. Open daily.
